SOUTH CUMBERLAND OUTPATIENT CLINIC

CUMBERLAND, MD

A 10,000 sq. ft. vacant storage space at the rear of an existing shopping center was transformed into an outpatient behavioral health facility.

The irregular footprint, nonuniform structural grid, and lease constraints presented unique challenges in designing a layout that meets the facility’s operational needs. Per lease requirements, public access was limited to the building’s interior and had to be visually separated from adjacent tenant entrances along the shared exit passageway.

To achieve this, a double egress door was installed at one side of the clinic entrance, dividing the shared corridor to provide privacy while maintaining the required egress route for other tenants. Inside, the waiting and reception area serves as the central hub for patient and staff interaction, functioning as a control point for access to patient care zones. Beyond this area, clinical spaces are arranged along a clear circulation path, linking the staff entrance to an exit leading to an outdoor space at the opposite end.
